If you want to see to see christian
apologists frantically flailing around trying to justify a point of view, ask them why all the complicated rules and laws of the old testament can be safely ignored by christians -- except for the very popular Ten Commandments, of course!
I don't buy any of their excuses for a moment.
I’ve always thought that what a perfect being thought were ‘fit and proper’ rules for his chosen people at one
period of time must surely also be ‘fit and proper’ for later ages.
You'd think, wouldn't you, that a perfect being would be able to come up with a simple set
of instructions that would last for all time?
Like
‘Don't keep slaves. Slavery is not nice.’
‘To avoid fights, share nicely.’
‘Wash your hands
after going to the toilet.’
‘Cook your food well to kill all those nasty germs and
bacteria I created to make miserable the lives of those who ignore the wash your hands after going to the toilet rule.'
The complex ‘do this’ and ‘don’t do this’ instructions in
the old testament are exactly the kind of thing you’d expect to find in a tribe
of people living thousands of years ago with no refrigeration and with a war god as their deity.
No wonder preachers say you don't have to pay any mind to them. They'd make life way too complicated.
But if you've any lingering doubt as to just how these old laws might apply to you, see the DEAR DR LAURA post

I'm not even-handed. And while I believe in 'balance' in viewpoints there are enough god-bothering sites out there for the turgid rants of the rabid. Your comment will be posted only if you mind your manners. And perhaps not even then.
